Finding ways to naturally increase your energy can be hard. Especially when there are cute coffee shops on every corner!
When you're working on balancing your hormones, reaching for more caffeine can do more harm than good. If you notice you have a hard time getting up in the morning (even with enough sleep), bloat around your midsection, salt cravings, or feel overwhelmed most of the time, you could be struggling with adrenal fatigue.
Adrenal fatigue is a term created by James Wilson, PhD, an expert in alternative medicine and a naturopath. It relates to our adrenal glands, which are small glands located above our kidneys and regulate hormones like cortisol, one of our stress hormones.
When these glands are overstimulated it can lead to fatigue where they can't properly do their job. This disrupts internal systems like our digestion, circulation, calm thoughts, and our reproductive cycle.
The next time you feel tired reach for this smoothie instead of your usual cup of joe!
I love sipping on this during my premenstrual week or the first few days I have my period (usually opting for almond milk instead of green tea, if I feel like my body can't handle the caffeine).
It's packed with magnesium (to soothe adrenal glands) and mint, a natural energy booster. This recipe also helps me avoid premenstrual headaches!
